Betsy is one of two HPC laser cutters Makespace used to have. Betsy has been given to another Makespace (we kept Jaws, the other HPC laser) and got a new Trotec laser cutter. I’ve had a backlog of members to train on the new laser and wanted to:
Train the first 100 members before doing the fun naming stuff.
Have a good think while using the new machine about the name.
Betsy’s name plate on the front of the Extraction unit, this was also changed. I did not get a picture???, not sure why. I will get one another time.
103 people are now trained….and everyone one of them gets wide eyed when the laser switches from engrave to cut and just zips through the material like its wafer thin paper.
Jaws (the other laser cutter) is named after a movie.
I’m a Tolkien nut.
Hence:
Forged for Turgon, the Elven King of Gondolin, during the First Age. For over 6,000 years, Glamdring went missing, surviving the War of Wrath until found by Gandalf and wielded during the war of the ring.
Its a sword, its cuts (like the laser)
Its from a book that was adapted to a movie, like Jaws.
Changing the name on the Paxton system.
Maintaining…mostly cleaning, but makes a huge difference. Getting rid of all the build up in the extractor pipe helps with air flow and smell.
Scrubbing the bed support keeps the bed level, easier to lift out/move, if you need to level the bed with shims (Its 13 years old and its not so level) its easier if you are not fighting with resin stains. General cleaning spray left on for 10min and then cleaning it off with wonder wipes.
