The Daily Make #40 | 15th June 2024
Chunk done, Video done & mitre sawing I was really happy with.
Nicknamed ‘the Chunk’ is done. And in place. And People like it. Tick. Tick. Tick.
This is not part Four of the write up (part 1,2 &3), that will be more comprehensive but written up during next week as this weekend was finishing and delivering the Chunk, making a short video, and then finishing Majicom Water Kiosk #2…and writing this.
There are times where projects that are fitted in and around other work feel like they are taking up a lot more time then they should to finish and other times I feel like it came together within a good time. Due to the extend needed to dry this out and thickness of the wood this one is the first, definartly not the second.
The final bits I needed to make where some feet for the legs to stop the metal ends from sinking into the ground. I got the idea for using the chop after watching a Taku Woodcraft video
Setting the depth of cut on the mitre saw and locking the track in place allowed me to make the same cut 5 times to make the grove to the fit the leg into. By move the piece back and forth under the blade it cleared out and smooth the wood.
Making all 5 groves first meant I did not need to clamp down small peices of wood (do not like doing this on the chop saw, its bit more dangerous too). Once the groves are done I could make the cuts to separate them. Black line notches are the cut lines.
Once done they were sanded and oiled.
The Chunk is in place…one its feet. Full write up coming in a week.
